Kurt is from Taree, in year 8, and was nominated by ACMF teacher Matt Zarb, who teaches him music at Taree High.
Matt writes “Kurt has proven to be an outstanding piano player. He’s very creative and takes the lead in every musical situation owning his instrument. His focus is fantastic. He has played in many performances with the ACMF and is determined to make a life out of this. He plays completely by ear and has great skill already as he spends hours at home every day honing his skills.”
With funds from his scholarship, Kurt is having two term’s worth of piano lessons from a local teacher.

Two other recipients of the Abernethy Scholarship for 2019 are in Grade 5 and Grade 2, and cannot be identified due to child protection legislation.
With financial assistance from their scholarship, these children are able to continue their private music lessons in guitar, and ukulele respectively.
