The Australian Children’s Music Foundation (ACMF) achieved a major policy milestone this week. We provided advice to the NSW Department of Education in developing its forthcoming 10-year Music Education Plan.
This high-level consultation is a direct, positive outcome of the Joint Select Committee (JSC) Report into Arts and Music Education and Training. The invitation to participate recognises our commitment to securing systemic music education access for every child in NSW.
The Advocacy Journey: From Submission to Systemic Change
The roundtable included key education officials and was supported by the attendance of Deputy Secretary Teaching, Learning and Student Wellbeing Martin Graham and Secretary Murat Dizdar.
Having previously provided a submission and testimony to the JSC Inquiry, our attendance at this consultation was a critical step in translating the committee’s findings into concrete government policy.
ACMF is a key partner in the Music Education: Right from the Start coalition. As such we were proud to collaborate with 26 other passionate minds, reinforcing a unified vision: quality, sequential, and ongoing music instruction is a fundamental right, not a privilege.
The Future: The Potential of a Decade of Music for Every Child
This plan is more than a policy document; it represents a powerful opportunity for systemic change. It has the potential to impact the self-worth and learning outcomes of thousands of children, from metro Sydney to the furthest remote and regional schools.
We recognise this roundtable is a significant first step in the plan’s development. There is important work still ahead.
