ACMF National Songwriting Competition 2025 – Amplifying Young Voices

We’re proud to announce the 23rd annual National Songwriting Competition. It’s aimed at fostering creativity, self-expression, and nurturing the next generation of songwriters. And this year’s competition is the biggest yet, with a prize pool valued at over $30,000.

ACMF believes every child, regardless of their background, deserves the opportunity to experience the transformative power of music. That’s why the National Songwriting Competition is free to enter for all school-aged children from Kindergarten to Year 12.

“Songwriting is a highly creative process,” says Don Spencer ACMF Founder and CEO. “This competition provides a unique opportunity for them to find their voice, build confidence, and discover the joy of music.”

The competition has a history of identifying emerging talent. Past winners, including Bailey Pickles, TikTok sensation and composer for 2024’s VIVID, and Lucy Parle of Triple J Unearthed recognition.

The competition is possible because of the generous support of its partners such as oOH!media, This is Flow and UnLtd who provide pro-bono PR and advertising, and Michael Cassel Group, AIM, AMPAL and APRA AMCOS.

“I’m a big believer in the transformative power of the arts and know that fostering creativity in young minds is essential for the future development of the arts in Australia,” says Michael Cassel. “That’s why I’m thrilled for the Michael Cassel Group to support ACMF in their mission to make music education accessible to all children.”

“AMPAL is a proud supporter,” says Damian Rinaldi CEO, AMPAL. “We believe songwriting is the foundation of a vibrant music industry, and this competition plays a crucial role in nurturing the next generation of Australian songwriters.”

APRA AMCOS’s SongMakers program is the winner’s prize for the high school group category. “SongMakers connects students with professional songwriters and music producers, providing them with invaluable mentorship, collaborative skills development and hands-on experience,” says Andrew Tuttle, National Manager – SongMakers, APRA AMCOS. “We are thrilled to be partnering with the ACMF to empower young people through songwriting.”

The Australian Institute of Music (AIM) also provides prizes for the competition, including studio time and support from mixing engineers.

We encourage you to help us spread the word about this incredible opportunity. For more information on how to enter, prizes, and terms and conditions, please visit National Songwriting Competition
