This year, Mikael celebrates 10 years as Chair and Company Secretary of the ACMF, We thought timing was perfect to sit down for a catch up!
- Throughout your career in accountancy and as founding director of Beyond International Film and TV Production, you’ve worked with music artists from The Angels to John Farnham to Midnight Oil. How significant is investment in music creation for society and culture, and what does music mean to you personally?
Music is critical to our culture and society in many ways – it is part of our national identity and connects communities across the nation.
- What initially inspired you to join the Australian Children’s Music Foundation?
I met Don Spencer on many occasions over a period of a decade before he approached me to join the Board of the ACMF. Don’s passion for the work of the ACMF is infectious and I wanted to contribute and assist him with the great work performed by the ACMF throughout Australia.
- What do you find most rewarding about the role as Chair of the ACMF? Can you share a moment or experience that reinforced your commitment to serving on the ACMF Board?
The facilities and teachers that the ACMF provides to schools, juvenile detention centres and hospitals have a measurable positive impact on the lives of the students and other participants. Seeing the joy and sense of hope that music education provides to these cohorts is very rewarding.
- What do you hope to accomplish as Chair?
Along with our fantastic Directors we have developed a 5-year strategic plan to grow the services that the ACMF provides to the community at a sustainable rate. The goal is for the ACMF to be a sustainable foundation in perpetuity.
