Music brings BIG smiles to sick kids
Music Therapy Week at the Sydney Children’s Hospital, 13th – 17th May.
The purpose of the week is to demonstrate the positive benefits that music can bring to seriously ill children.
Don Spencer and his daughter and ACMF Ambassador Danielle Spencer, visited the hospital to experience this inspiring program first hand, run by music therapist Kym Weatherley and Matt Ralph. For those kids that spend hours, weeks or months in hospital, music is a wonderful escape for them that brings not only joy but also calm, in some fairly stressful situations. As one of the hospital staff said ‘to hear music on the ward changes the whole atmosphere and not only helps bring a smile to sick kids but also is a great release for the parents’.
Read a recent report from Kym about her work at the hospital. This program is severely understaffed. There are 120 kids at any one time and only two music therapists. Help us expand this program by donating now.
