ACMF rewards former young detainee

Cheyne Halloran, who’s been running an ACMF Music Program at Shepherds Park ETU (Riverina Juvenile Justice Centre in Wagga Wagga) for the past two years, was thrilled recently to be able to present a guitar to a young detainee upon his release from the centre.

The young man in question couldn’t play a chord before he entered the program, but one year later, was proficient enough to be awarded the guitar, not just because of his musical ability, but because of a turnaround in his behaviour and attitude.

As the young man said, in a letter he called “My Boss”, “Shane (Cheyne) is an awesome guy.. as he is an awesome teacher. I’ve learnt a lot and I appreciate every minute I’ve spent in his music class. It’s surely taken me out of my comfort zone and taught me to sing in front of others.”

Congratulations from all of us here at the ACMF to both Cheyne, and to his young student.
