music therapy

Thanks to the fundraising endeavours from the Australian Stockbrokers Foundation (ASF), ACMF has been able to recently implement a music therapy program in Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick. This program reinforces the healing powers of music to brighten the lives of children and youth who are battling serious and often life threatening illnesses. Cut off from the ability to conduct life as normal, these children and youth are able to participate in music programs which offers them an escape and the ability to engage in creative and empowering exercises they may not have had the opportunity to otherwise. This program is currently being conducted by ACMF Music Therapist and teacher, Kym Weatherley who recently wrote to let us know about one little seven year old girl in particular, who is in isolation, following a bone marrow transplant: “She loves music therapy – she’s a particularly prolific song writer and today she learned to play the uke.  Thanks again for sending the guitars and shakers over, they’re a huge hit with the kids!”

Thank you to the ASF, who have shown invaluable support for the ACMF and who have been instrumental in our ability to run this particular program.
