In partnership with the Australian Chamber Orchestra (ACO), children from selected schools in NSW and Victoria experience interactive concerts and workshops with musicians from Australia’s top chamber orchestra, as a part of our on-going programs in South-Western Sydney and Melbourne.
Sixteen selected students from Soldiers’ Settlement Public School in NSW, also have additional sponsorship support to learn the violin and ‘cello, and have formed a small string ensemble. They receive lessons from ACMF teachers, lessons with ACO musicians, tickets to ACO concerts and invitations to ACO and ACO2 Open Rehearsals.
“I have seen children laugh at the musical jokes in a Haydn string quartet. They have sung along to Mozart. They have danced to Grieg. They have played percussion to Tchaikovsky. They will remember these experiences for years to come. I know that this works. I know that music both inspires and heals.”
Rachel Scott, ACMF Teacher
We are honoured to have a long-standing partnership with the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) Band. RAN musicians regularly visit many of the schools who take part in our School Music Programs in Sydney and western NSW.
The RAN musicians present regular concerts for school communities. These performances include children from ACMF Program Schools performing alongside the accomplished musicians from the RAN Band. Children in our programs thoroughly enjoy performing with the RAN musicians, joining in by drumming their parts on water bottles, chairs or feed containers.
We are proud to announce that the regular visits from, and mentoring by, the RAN Band’s ‘Rock Band’ contingent at Soldiers’ Settlement Public School has resulted in the school now boasting a boys-only rock band.
Since 2013, children from Hillston Central School have been participating in master classes via videoconference with the RAN Band members – often this is the only opportunity children in remote NSW have to be tutored by a professional musician who plays the same instrument.
We are thrilled to be able to continue to partner with the Royal Australian Navy Band, to bring these opportunities to regional and disadvantaged students.
