The Winners Story
2007 Winner- Michaela Baranov
At only 20 years old singer, guitarist & songwriter Michaela Baranov is quickly emerging as one of Australia’s most recognisable up and coming recording artists.
Not easily stereotyped, Michaela’s musical stylings are reminiscent of recent Katy Perry mixed with young Natalie Imbruglia. Her songs offer guitar driven anthems, commercial hooks and poetic lyrical content.
Her debut single, ‘Hurricane’ was recently released nationally on October 17 by the same force behind the releases of Sneaky Sound System, John Butler Trio and most recently Gotye’s Somebody That I Used To Know.
There are high expectations for the single, recently winning Second place in the world-wide John Lennon Songwriting Competition – Pop Music Category.
Despite chronic ear problems and trouble hearing, Michaela was born with a determination to succeed in the music industry. She has received acknowledgement for her talent from a young age – not just from her family and friends, but high profile industry professionals. In 2007 she was a winner in the ACMF National Songwriting Competition, which gave her the opportunity and the impetus to really push forward.
Michaela is passionate about the impact music can have on people, especially kids and has filled the role of Youth Ambassador for the Australian Children’s Music Foundation since 2008.
