The Australian Children’s Music Foundation (ACMF) are proud to have begun a 2019 partnership with Wakakirri – Australia’s largest performing arts event for schools.

As both organisations share a passion for Education (in Arts and Music), it is fitting that the two support each other in their respective initiatives – working toward the common goal of encouraging and facilitating creativity and self-expression in school children.

The Wakakirri event is for primary and secondary schools. Each year thousands of students across Australia take part in creating Story-Dances for Wakakirri that reflect their thoughts, ideas and aspirations. These 3-7 minute stories are performed in professional theatres in front of the official ‘Wakakirri Panel’ who are searching for ‘Story of the Year’. Over 1 million people watch Wakakirri performances each year. Wakakirri is for every, and any public or private school in Australia.

Similarly, the ACMF has established a reputation for its yearly National Songwriting Competition – a nationwide initiative inviting students from every school across Australia to put pen to paper, and enter their original song compositions. Winners receive prize-money, which can be allocated towards musical equipment and tuition. This allows them to invest in furthering their musical pursuits.

The ACMF will run its 17th annual National Song writing Competition this year – which over the years has received over 25,000 original entries. In 2019, the competition will be open to all children in Grades 4 – 12, and entries can be made as an individual, or as a school.

The ACMF and Wakakirri will work together in promoting key dates and material concerning their closely aligned events and initiatives – in an effort to cultivate an educational environment which allows for increased creativity, and freedom of expression among children and youth.
